Greetings: Re: 1995 Buick LeSabre, Limited 3.8L engine 150K miles This has been ongoing for quite a while . Check engine light came on: I had a scan done which revealed three codes; PO321 Spark Ref. Circuit, PO341Cam/Crank error & PO1360. Ignition control circ. The ICM checked out good and I replaced the cam shaft sensor. I hesitate to replace the crank sensor because of the intense labor and I have been told by others because there are three codes it is likely a ground problem. The vehicle runs OK with the light on but runs a little better with it off which is not often. Lately the problem is manifesting as follows: Riding along about 50-60 all of a sudden there is a hesitation and I see out of the corner of my eye the dash lights (bat. oil, etc come on and the headlights dim and the odometer surges up and then soon the car is running right again, although with the check engine light on. Went for a short trip, about 13 miles and during that period, the engine stalled out, three times I pulled over and was able to restart. On the return home, there were no incidents. On, at least, a couple of occasions when I race the engine in neutral, the light goes off for an instant and then when I let up on the gas, it comes on again. That's about it.

How was the ICM tested? It may have checked good during testing, but it wasn't acting up. Those problems are hard to diagnose unless you have a lab scope and can monitor signals. You also cannot troubleshoot those bypass ignition systems unless you understand system design. There is no silver bullet answer. One thing you should do is inspect the harness that plugs into the ignition module. Make sure the wires right at the plug are in good shape and haven't' had the insulation rubbed off by the radiator hose. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Actually, I have two ICMs. Had them both checked at O'Reilly Auto and they said both were good. I could take one out and replace it and see if it makes any difference. Too, I would like your opinion on whether or not you think the crank sensor is involved.

I don't care what they tell you. There is no way O'Reilly can tell you for sure if a computer is good or bad. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

explain this - "the odometer surges up " maybe you are thinking SPEEDOMETER ? That issue suggest alternator issue. needing a diode check. NOT a store quick test. Look at the freeze frame and at the misfire counter- would help ID which cylinder, there may be a problem with ign coil. Be sur to only use AC Delco parts esp spark plugs. To second what colleague mentions ICM often bench test good and fail when hot and or installed. AGAIN AC DELCO!
