My 2014 Chrysler Town and Country has a problem every time it rains or gets a car wash. The right side mirror indicator light turns on and the Blind Spot disabled message appears on the display. A week or two later if the weather remains dry, the system starts working normally. Per advice on Youtube, I have checked connectors to both modules located at left and right rear fenders. I have cleaned and added dielectric grease to connectors with no change to problem. Also, I have used a known good module to troubleshoot by swapping them one at a time, but still no change observed. I have looked for chafing at the tie off spots for the wiring all the way across rear bumper. I am wondering where else I can look to find the bad connection or any other troubleshooting method to find the problem.

IF you wish to DIY this, search out throwing it all out. Price no doubt insane. Worse that doesn't mean it will solve the issue. IDK - car wash could have caused this if the self done ones you just ride thru - some are harsh?? They may or may not help or pay for this no harm in asking or register the complaint, Tom

Thanks for your reply, although I do not understand the first paragraph. Also, the car is hand washed since it is too tall with luggage to drive through an automatic cleaner. Regardless, I am not interested in how the problem occurred rather, I want to know how to fix it.

That 1st note is "DIY" = "Do it yourself" if not familiar. Throwing the entire unit out is most likely to fix it. It could be something that bends in the door jamb less likely that driver's door things usually used the most. Other thing is go to dealer and ask for the diagnosis at some fixed hourly rate then decide if you want to fix it or not. GET A PRICE! I just smell this is over $2,000 bucks for a funky side view mirror? The "toy" features of assorted vehicles cost a fortune usually, Tom

Thanks Tom, I was looking for any likely places to check since, yes, I plan to DIY and not write a blank check to a dealer to WAG (wild ass guess :-) for hours. So it sounds like the connectors in the mirror itself is a possibility. Also, bundle that passes through door since it is repeatedly being flexed. Do you know of any techniques I could use to isolate problem by unplugging or jumping out wires to bypass problem area like mirror etc.? Are there any wiring diagrams available or service bulletins? Also, do you know any Chrysler mechanics who may offer any advice to find bad connection?

If you don't like dealers independents that specialize in this could be a lot of help. IDK - you need to look for where it gets wet as this problem goes away hope to find evidence or corrosion. Full diagrams to have live and at the ready you pay for not sure it will help yet if checking while it's working don't think much will help. Do you know if items, body damage or anything already have been worked on this? Clues would be no OE fasteners perhaps or paint overspray it was damaged or fixed there go looking. A shop should or could be best starting help a preset time and cost up front not a blank check thing, Tom

Perhaps moisture is getting into the main relay and fuse box in the engine compartment? Try covering it in plastic before the wash or rain!

Would be nice to know if this van was in an accident - look there. Other maybe trick is spray tap water out of spray bottle on items one by one see if OP can make it fail - that's the spot. Also a "wiggle" test at connectors either fixes or causes the problem sometimes. Gotta ask at a shop if you don't find this yourself it's clearly some failure in wires bare or connection real weak - has to be. In that plain rain vs car wash also does it most items underhood don't get wet it van is just sitting vs wild road spray in rain wet roads. Check the door rubber that it's intact and drains water away or missing weather-stripping? Tom

Thanks. Sorry for the late reply, I've been traveling. No accidents with the car. Just water intrusion and maybe combined with a chafed wire somewhere.

Keep trying as wiring is in a protective harness hides them most are split stuff you and dig out wires where or near where they would bend normally a tug on them the bad one would stretch (maybe) be the clue. It is witch hunting if so since it quits see with a water can maybe if you can make it happen at least know where. Moving doors already said those wires are hidden - look they are hidden in a snorkel. Tug test on ones most used. This is intermittent so it's going to be educated guessing of where water (it conducts electricity) can get wet. Most was made new to tolerate it to a point. Other issue is quality of wire suks, so do connection points the plastic will bust and waste a day to find and fix just one of those this van is so full of them is nuts! Sliding doors on sides, rear door(s) moving sun visors with lights - there's just no cure for stupid out there, (Off this exact issue a car freak myself own a lot of VERY old cars now moving wires the issue then too the fewer the toy option the better when older- ancient) Tom
