I have a 1998 Lincoln Town Car, 4.6 Liter V8, with 140,000 miles on the odomoter. The cigar light needed replacing. I replaced the lighter and a blown fuse, however the lighter will not work. I checked the voltage and there is 12 volts at the wire terminals. Also, with the wires disconected, there is continuity between the terminals of the lighter. Using a small test bulb, there is 12 volts at the wire terminals, however the bulf will not illuminate. Another cigar lighter socket located near the floor under the ash tray works fine, but the new one w ill not work. A mistery. Any suggestions?

RRD. I was reminded to re-read your post. Seems like everything I told you to do, you already did, my bad. Okay, you have the lighter pigtail unplugged with the key on and a new fuse in the box. With a test light, we probe the pigtail and have no light. Take the test light clip and hook up to a good ground. Reprobe the wires, if one lights now that confirms the ground for the lighter is bad. But, the wire that has the 12volts+ needs to go to the center terminal of the lighter socket. The ground wire must go to the body of the socket, or else the polarity will be reversed. Let us know how you make out with this. Steve
