Year of vehicle: 2000 Make of vehicle: Olds Model of vehicle: Silhouette Engine size: 3.4 Mileage: 100,000 Hi there all. I have a 2000 olds silhouette. The power windows all stopped working at the same time. They were working one minute, the next minute, they weren't. We didn't hear, see or smell anything happen. I checked for current at the door switches and at the 30 amp fuse in the fuse block located on the right side of the dash. I checked for current with the ignition switch on and there was no current. I tried taking the 30 amp fuse out and connecting 12 volts directly to that fuse receptacle via a battery charger and the windows functioned as if there wasn't enough power...they moved, but very slowly, with a electrical growling noise. Do you all have any ideas? Thank you so much in advance!

Thank you for posting the wiring diagram. I have a 1999 service manual with all of the diagrams, but they are not helping me, unfortunately. I am trying to figure out why there isn't any juice going to the 30 amp fuse (at the top of the wiring diagram). When the ignition key is turned on there should be juice to that fuse. Has anyone seen a better wiring diagram that begins from the ignition switch and goes to that 30 amp windows fuse? Does anyone know any other reason why there is no power to the windows fuse? Thanks again!

That's not a fuse. It's a circuit breaker. Are you sure your testing the right spot? I pulled the circuit breaker out and used a test light on either of the contacts that the circuit breaker plugs into and no juice with the key on. There are two other 30 amp breakers below that one and the test light lights on those two. thank you again

Could you tell me where (under the hood) this rap unit is located and what it looks like? How does it function? What would make this stop working and can I reset or get it to function again without buying new? Thank you

Hi, Thanks again for all of your help. Are you talking about the fuse relay center? The relay is # 11 (ignition relay)? It has four prongs and when I pull it out, the car will not start. If the car runs, does that mean the relay is good, or does the relay have dual function and the part that powers the windows failed? Is that possible?

The RAP relay stands for Retained Accessory Power relay. It's the relay that keep power to your accessories aftyer the key is shut off and before the door is opened. If your radio is working that way, then the relay is fine and your problem has to be in the wiring between them. My radio functions fine by shutting off when the door is opened. Then, the rap relay is good. There is a heavy dark blue wire coming from the fuse block where the circuit breaker is. Does this wire run directly to the fuse center (underhood)? I have taken the bottom off of the fuse center and I cannot find that heavy dark blue wire there. The diagram shows the blue wire from relay to fuse block. Does it change color somewhere? Thanks for letting me pick your brain so much!

I gave you the wiring diagram. It has all the color codes and connectors on it. It shows a dark blue wire going into the circuit breaker. I took the glove box out to follow the heavy dark blue wire from the 30 amp window circuit breaker located in the fuse box to the right of the glove box. The blue wire goes from there toward the firewall and then curves around to three relays that are on the right hand corner firewall . The relays look the same type as the ones in the fuse relay center (under the hood). Do you know what these relays are used for?

They are the rear defogger relay and the theft deterrent relay. Thanks for all of your help Hammer time! It's been real cold here and I haven't been able to fix this problem yet. As soon as I find the rap relay I intend to run a new wire from there to the 30 amp fuse in the fuse block. Troubleshooting the old line for a short looks to be more difficult. I will post again if I need more advice or as soon as the problem gets solved.

Hi again, Thanks again for all of your help! Sorry, it took me so long to (sort of) fix the problem. I tried to find a short between the circuit break er and the relay switch but no luck. I finally removed the relay switch and ran a jumper wire from the 12 volt power terminal direct to the window terminal where that relay plugged in to. The windows work but do not have a timed shut off they work with the ignition switch off (not a problem for me) and the compressor in the rear drivers side comes on until the pressure shuts it off (also not a problem). It seems as though the relay switch was not being activated, allowing the current to flow to the windows. Is it possible that the drivers side window switch activates the timed relay switch when the ignition switch is turned on thereby allowing the current to flow from relay to circuit breaker and finally to the window switch? If not the window switch, what activates that timed relay? Hope I explained myself clearly Thank you!!
