Dashboard Lights up Like a Christmas Tree Sign In

Hello everyone. I am having some trouble with my 2005 Cavalier. I recently replaced the battery cables because they were bad. But, after I replaced them, my car started out doing ok. Started right away without having to give it a jump. The problem came later at night when I had headlights on, my a/c on, then I got to a stop and when I pressed on the brakes, the entire dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. The headlights dimmed and my a/c started losing power, then my gauges all went haywire...my gas gauge went from full to empty and my speedometer and rpm just did not work. I got home and turned the car off and back on the the problem was fixed, but then it happened again the following night. It seems that it happens at night when a/c and lights are on at same time, or during the day if im constantly pressing on the break and have my a/c on....
Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Sounds like your charging system is not working for one reason or another. Make sure you didn't short any cables causing arcing or sparks as that may have burnt out a fusible link.

Also make sure you didn't leave any wires disconnected from the battery.

What is the battery/system voltage when the problem is occurring?
