Hi everyone, I have a 2010 GMC Savana 3500 cargo van. It sits for a week at a time, as it's a weekend vehicle. Problem is, my battery dies over that week due to the parasitic drain from my radio, and remote start. The battery is new, and tests good. My question is, I have a battery booster/jumper that I'd like to use with a double ended cigarette lighter cord connecting the booster, to the cigarette lighter outlet in my van to avoid a dead battery. Will this work ?

Leaving it on a floating trickle charge for a once a week use thing is a good idea. Do watch out for the "double male" plugs that go power port to port it's alive when in either suggest use the standard hook ups go direct to battery put on the plug right there. Fuse everything just because. You still need to fix the drain you've probably already ruined a good battery they CAN'T go flat dead and come back for long or even once some? Other is they'll freeze if cold where you are being charged makes them cold proof that way. If you are sure remote start set up is a drain disable it and radio anything shouldn't so find out why. Do know vehicle does draw a very small amount normally should make a week or more just don't count on as much as things get older like that. Double check that battery you've lost a LOT of CCA (cold cranking amps) from going dead already even when volts show fine it's lost how powerful it should be new or not with that, T

OH! Yes, kill them both. Just charge the portable when vehicle is running or not by the vehicle at all. Check, some ports shut down when ignition is off some stay on. The portable will tolerate going very low the vehicle's battery will not. I re-assert that if standard type "flooded lead/acid" it's toast in no time I mean flat like you lose all memory in the vehicle. Too late where I am they are freezing already luck if those don't split cases is a horrid mess. Not funny - the places you buy them can't store them outdoors for pick up/recycle, T

Yes, it will take a little longer but in the end you will ruin 2 batteries instead of one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Quote ">The double make cord is fused. The battery doesn't go so low it loses radio memory, it just won't start the van. I would think having 2 batteries would make it last longer, and possibly still have enough to start the van at the end of the week.<" Right - TWO dead batteries. Do watch out for those double ended "port connectors" fused or not. It does add a little if hooked up all the time. Problem is there it should do this but I do suggest the maintainers. I hold the world's record for how many I'm sure are on everything seasonal or not used often - too many toys but nice when a generator starts when power is out. Best so far is Black and Decker's "weatherproof" one is 2amp possible shows nicely when done all that type use a 2 wire connector by a couple brands. Harbor Freight has one for under $10 isn't clear how powerful isn't really the point for normal drains over time. It's just smart for low use or long term not run and kept fully charged. Why make an alternator work so hard you'll burn those out. THE issue is have "house" current available. None of that is solving your problem you need to find the reason it's so low it can't crank an engine is the most draw a battery should ever be asked to do. I was serious about dead or even low charged batteries DO FREEZE either crack and spill acid or wreck themselves inside if so on a good one. Duh - beware of what gets damaged if that happens and how to handle it, T

Instead of all this nonsense about chargers and other cars, why don't you just repair the problem. That is not the way it is designed to work.

Zackery! Just thinking of myself I charge the packs with the vehicle and disconnect as needed. Even those do like to be kept charged or may not work when you need it for this vehicle or another or another thing all together, T
