2009 Ford Fusion, 47,000 miles - The digital display reads "no compass" each time I start the car. Therefore, I have to push the reset button each time I restart to see any information such as the odometer, timer, etc. The manual states to drive in a left circle 3 times and the compass will come back. I tried that and it didn't work. This has been a problem for a couple years but it has always corrected itself after a few days. This time it has been a continuous problem for a month. Any suggestions?

When you did the compass relearn, did the message center ever display "CALIBRATION COMPLETED"? Compass Calibration NOTE: For optimum calibration, drive to an open, level location away from large metallic objects or structures. Switch off all non-essential electrical accessories (rear window defrost, heater, A/C, map lamps, wipers, etc.) and make sure all doors are closed. 1. Start the vehicle. 2. Press the RESET button until RESET FOR CAL/INFO TO EXIT is displayed in the message center display. 3. NOTE: This will take up to 3 circles to complete calibration. Slowly drive the vehicle in a circle at no more than 5 km/h (3 mph) until SLOW CIRCLES TO CALIBRATE changes to CALIBRATION COMPLETED in the message center. 4. The compass is now calibrated. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

This is in response to my earlier question posted a few day ago. My digital display reads "COMPASS NO RESPONSE" each time I start the car and that message remains until I hit the reset button. The compass never displays however, the odometer and other functions will then display. I tried to recalibrate the compass according to the manual but have not had any luck. After I set the proper zone for my location, nothing happens when I hit the reset button as the following step in the procedure. So no it did not say calibration completed.

I haven't had to do one of those yet......I know with some procedures, you need to hold the "whatever" button for what seems like an eternity before you get what you want......Maybe you aren't holding the reset button long enough? The reason for the delay on a lot of these procedures is so they aren't accidently activated/deactivated From what DS posted.......You have to get the display to go into cal mode before anything will work..... Or there could be a malfunction in the system....You could try to get the codes pulled for free at a parts store to see if there is any thing stored but I would really be surprised to see that system setting a code in the PCM... For pulling codes on any other module, you would need a high end scan tool....something parts stores don't do

I have tried holding the reset button but to no avail. When it gets to the step to set the zone after programming it in, that's when the procedure stonewalls.
