Dodge Caravan Injector hell Sign In

I have a problem with code P0204, Have changed all injectors and still have this one code remaining. I can clear code but it returns right away. Dose this code just mean a problem with the #4 injector driver or can another problem cause this code to appear. I have put a meter on the line and it read that the line was good. This is a 1999, 3.0 engine v6 I am thinking problem in the wiring harness.

Re: Dodge Caravan Injector hell Sign In

How did you check the line BJM? The injectors have a 12v power feed & the PCM ground them. That P0204 is for the #4 injector circuit. You need to check power & ground. I know some of those are under the plenum & hard to get a noid light too bu You could ohm the circuit thru the injector harness tho.

I'm not sure what year we are talking about but I've had a couple of late 90s Cavarvan 3.3s with bad injector harnesses. Easy to replace a drag to pay for......4 bills from the dealer.....Unsure

Oops just noticed the year & engine @ the end......still check it out the same way...

First thank you for your time. I tested the line with a ohm meter from the computer to the injector and did not find any problem. Is it possible that in the harness lines crossed or broken, gets real hot back there and they are old. I have taken this thing apart several times and can do it in my sleep. and I do so in my sleep a real nightmare. I can try a noid light as I will have it apart tomorrow.

Re: Dodge Caravan Injector hell Sign In

It is possible. You could go from that line to ground if you get a real low ohm reading that would indicate it's grounding somewhere else.

Is it running poorly, like #4 is dead?

Yes as it get harmed up it runs with a miss. The first time I took it apart and changed the injectors it run for a few hours and then the check engine light came back on and it started to run rough.

Tested the line with ground and had no reading all clear. If you can clear codes dose that mean that the PCM is ok. and that the driver is not blown.

Re: Dodge Caravan Injector hell Sign In

That doesn't sound good if runs good cold & bad after it warms up. Normally a short will be all the time or intermittens when you're driving & it gets bumped around, not usually from cold to hot just sitting there....

You could try backprobing the connector for #4 at the PCM with key on engine off you should be getting 12 v maybe probe # 2 & 3 for a baseline. When running the meter reading should be moving around as the PCM is grounding the injector. If #4 stops moving & reads a steady 12v but #2 & 3 keep moving that would be a indication of a bad driver...

I will try that tomorrow and a few other ideas like the noid light and I will post my findings. Thanks for your time talk to you soon.

One thing I should mention if your meter has a duty function on it that would acually work better than a voltage reading. I assumed your meter didn't...... I gotta stop doing that... Or better yet a lab scope...

Re: Dodge Caravan Injector hell Sign In

I had enough room to get a noid light on the #4 injector and the light flashed like it should. I put the ohm meter across the two terminals of the injector and it read 89 instead of the 12 to 15 like it should read. I received a bad injector when I changed all 6. Still do not trust old wires so I made a mini harness for the injectors and will reroute it along a cooler path. I will pick up another injector and put it back together.

Keep you posted BJMDodge

89 ohms Shocked. Yea that could be a problem....
.
.
It's a good sign that noid light is flashing. Just becareful on the harness. The factory one has sealed connectors, if the one you make has exposed terminals, they could get corroded & give you more grief down the road.....

Replaced injector and the wire repair everything is working great, that van has never run that good in the year I have owned it.
It was a hand me down from my dad. Bet the fuel mileage will be a lot better also. Would like to thank you for your ideas and suggestions. You helped to send me in right direction

Thanks again Sidom
