Hi,
I purchased used honda civic about a year ago at the end of 2014. Purchased from private seller. car was 2 years old at that time and had about 12,000 miles. There was no problems with this car. The previous owner told that that he had to replace battery. (reason unknown). I assumed that he did it because his mother in-law, who owned this car, didn't use it much and it drained the battery. When I bought it, it already had a remote start installed. It worked when we bought it, but a couple of months ago it stopped working. When I pushed the remote start button, only lights would flash, but car wouldn't start. one time I tried it when I was standing next to the car and it sounded like the battery didn't have enough power to remotely start the vehicle. About the same time, my wife, who is driving this car, started having problems with starting this car with a key and she had to call for help to jump start it. It didn't happen all the the time, but from time to time. I switched cars with her hopping to catch this problem, but after driving for almost a month I didn't have any issues until last week. It was pretty called outside and car wouldn't start as if the battery was dead, but when after trying to start it I would take the key out, all kinds of lite start to come on the dashboard and clicking of some mechanism. I took a video of it and hopefully will be able to attach it to this message. I showed this video to my mechanic and he thinks that I simply need to replace my battery. What concerns me that this is 4 years old car and the battery already been replaced once (by previous owner) and now we have to do it again. My other car was purchased 6 years ago and still running on it's original battery. Therefore I think maybe there is some kind of problem with electrical system that drains battery. By the way car starts with no problem on other days when it is cold outside. Please let me know if you have comments or questions. Thank you.   Agree a lot of batteries even for a Honda.
A charging issue, Parasitic drains , added electronics, and the problematic remote starter, can be diagnosed the issue is TIME ... and time is money.
You could scan for codes yes even if CEL is OFF.
How are your DVOM skills?
And other than remote, anything ANYTHING added or not OEM?

Hi kev2 and thank you for your reply. I don't know of any other equipment that was installed on this car. Not sure what DVOM skills are, but assume that it has to do with testing of electrical systems. I'm not familiar with it, (although ironically I work in the marketing department of electrical testing company), but with proper direction I don't mind to try it out. I probably just need an idea where to start. With Google I probably can find out in details how to do it. Thanks again for your time.
