Electric Door Locks

My grandson received a 2000 Ford f150 truck for his birthday. Nice gift , but he has to perform maintenance and as a teenager he has limited income. The truck had been repossessed and the passengers door lock was missing and we assume that is the result of the repossession . However, the electric door locks do not function using the keyless remote or using the LOCK/UNLOCK buttons on the vehicle. If you change gears from PARK to DRIVE, the doors automatically lock, this would indicate to me that the locks are functioning properly, the problems lies within the switches. Someone quoted him a $560.00 repair for this problem, that seems a little expensive. As an old shade tree mechanic I think I can help him, but with modern technology I thought I would look on the internet for someone with a similar problem. The doors clickwhen the LOCK/UNLOCK switch is pressed, it makes me wonder if it is a low voltage problem. George Lawshe George@Lawshe.com

Bet you there are some wires screwed up from slim jimming during repo. It's happend to a car I fixed and that case I was able to solder stuff back and all worked. Start with driver's door if you think that's a possibility. Good luck with it,

I have tried the programming of the remote, no luck. Since the doors lock properly when going from PARK to DRIVE, I think all the linkage is in good shape. I believe if I could find the Ford schematic that was detailed enough to show how the buttons received their voltage supply, I could figure it out. The third party manuals are not detailed enough and I do not want to start trouble shooting blindly when I know a schematic is avaliable somewhere. George George@Lawshe.com
