Electrical noise

I own a 1986 Toyota Celica GT 2 dr hatchback 5spd 2se engine. I have a noise that is driving me crazy. I think it is an electrical noise, it sounds like morse code. Randomly beeping on and off. This happens once the car has been driven about 20 minutes or so. It sounds like it's coming from under the car on the driver's side. It is not effected by the speed of the engine, but is more noticable when the car is idling, because there is less road noise. It happens whether the stereo is on or off. Do you know what this is and how to fix it? And is the car safe to drive? Any help would be appreciated.
