Ford F-150 Not Starting Sign In

I have a 1986 Ford F-150 extended cab Eddie Bauer that I just bought used. It is a super clean and nice truck with only 57K. Recently I have been having a problem starting it. When you turn the key all the way to start it, all the lights and radio goes out (like it is supposed to) but the starter doesn't turn over. Sometimes you have to turn the key up to 15 times before the starter kicks over and it starts right up. Sometimes it works on the first try. I replaced the starter and I thought that fixed it but after a few days it started doing it again. I took the battery cables off and the wire was pretty corroded where it connected to the factory terminals. I took the terminals off, cleaned the wire and then put new terminals on it. That didn't help. The battery is 6 years old. I don't think it is the battery because when it turns over there is plenty of power and it starts right up, but who knows?? Could this be an issue with the ignition switch in the steering column? It is about to drive me nuts.

My Opinion: A six year old battery is OLD!! Not dependable and get rid of it.

Ok: you have cleaned up some connections but don't forget the ground cable from the battery to the engine. If there is a problem there even jump starting wouldn't help, T

I agree with tom. If a battery says its life expectancy is 60 months.... you can be pretty sure it is going to die within the next few months..... most likely in the 61 month.
