Ford Five Hundred dashboard lights flickering and noisy air conditioner. Sign In

A day ago the instument lights ( including the clock, radio, and dashboard lights) in my ford 500 started randomly flickering. At the same time my air conditioner (which has dual air) started making a choppy/pulsing like noise. However, the air flow rate is steady. The noise tends to stop when I am in idle or driving at low speeds. In idle the rpm will occasionally flux from aroud 500 to 1000 also. The fan speed controller also doesn't work, but this problem existed prior to the others. I have no idea what is going on and was hoping for some insight.

My main concern is that I will be moving in a few days and am worried about something going wrong during my 1,400 mile drive from South Carolina to Iowa.

Better put this top of your list is moving soon. May not be really an A/C problem at all rather a belt or charging system problem such as a cable connection, weak belt slipping badly or other. Car should be totally check out for the trip and which fan(s) do you mean? Ones for engine or the blower inside?

Dual air? What year is this thing? I've seen a whopping 1 of these as a rental just that once was just a car unlikely to have dual A/C as I know it.

Really not the point, A/C noise if really just an A/C noise still could be many things or using A/C puts a strain on something else,

Thanks for the advise. I plan on getting my car looked at tomorrow. The majority of mechanics in my area are closed on the weekends. Little worried that what ever is going on will turn into a guessing game so I was trying to narrow down the possibilities. I had the car totally checked about three weeks ago and it was given a clean bill of health. As for the fans I am talking about the ones inside and dual air just means that the driver and passenger can both control the temperature of their fans. I feel like the air noise and the lights are connected because they both happen at the same time.

OK - Understood weekends screw up available help anywhere really. Still say what model year this thing is. By chance or whatever said I don't know this car just that it's not listed anymore made new still?
Reason for noise if you hear it inside could be an actuator is in fact this is "dual zone" controls like passenger can select temp and blower speed different than driver there would be actuators for diverter doors common to the idea that could make noise, dash as a whole may not be getting proper electrical power and grounds for lights, controls or anything?

This needs to be rechecked and known what's wrong. Code readings capable of the full range of codes and checks AGAIN this car is OK for this trip. You said you had it checked now this so needs a recheck.

Never mind techno details I doubt you are set up to do this so finding the place that can determine what the heck is really causing this is a must for a trip.

It's just so obnoxious to be stranded by some problem away from any home base for any reason something goes wrong and you have a warning at hand to tend to. I can't do squat from the web it must be seen in person by a shop and tech that can handle whatever is causing this,
