Help brake light problems Sign In

Hi guys just bought my some a 98 firebird from a auction and got ithome and noticed that the brake lights arn't working, the third light is but thats it bulbs appear to be ok, checked the fuses ok, replaced the brake light switch, and there appears to be no power at the brake light socket, is there a relay or something im missing? any help is greatly appreciated.......D

Is there current to and from the stop light switch? Fuse 1 under the dash controls the stop and turn signals. If it is OK, the wiring runs through the turn signal switch before it gets to the rear. Your signals and brakes are on the same bulb. Good luck. Click here and scroll all the way down. There is a diagram of the lighting there. It is figure 26.

on the 2 wires running into the switch there was power on one of the wires and no power on the other, i assumed that 1 is power in and the other is power out, i guess I should have checked the new switch to see if it was good the one thing I nocticed when checking the bulbs was that they werent all the same they where mixed and matched all dual filiment but not the same, but again when putting a light probe on the empty socket there was no power
