How to tell when the airbags have deployed? Sign In

I'm working on a business idea, related to car safety.
I need to catch the electrical signal, the moment when any airbags were just deployed.
How to do that?
Thanks.

Connect a lab scope to the air bag wires and crash into a tree is about the only way.

If you intentionally trigger the bag electrically you will corrupt the electrical signal.

Thanks for the fast reply, Hammer, but I certainly do not want to intentionally deploy the airbag.
I want to know when the deployment has occurred. On any vehicle.
Is there some (easy) way to tap into that electrical circuit, for All installed airbags?

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here but once any bag is deployed, the system is shut down and will not be operational until the bag, the control module and probably the sensor are replaced.

You can probably access the module with a high quality scan tool to look at data but I don't understand what else you are looking for.

I want to know when an electrical signal is sent to an airbag to deploy. Does that make it clearer?
Yes, the airbag and other parts later need to be replaced. That's irrelevant for this project.
Wouldn't there be a signal that goes thru the fuse box, on the fuse that runs the airbags?

No there wouldn't be. The fuse powers the module. The module fires the bag.

Do you know?: Is there one module per airbag? That is: there might be up to ten modules that I would need to tap into? Is that true? Thanks.

No, there is only one and the only way you are going to tap into it is with a very expensive scan tool.

Don't even think about messing around with the wiring with the key on. Very dangerous.

Darn. Sounds like I may need to forget about that attribute to this project. Thanks very much for your time and expertise, Hammer.

Believe me, you don't ever want to mess with a live air bag system. We totally disable the system before we work anywhere around it.

You have to remember, this is basically a mini stick of dynamite that only needs a spark to go off.
