My 2000 Honda CRV has 196,000 miles on it and I'm trying to decide to keep repairing it or sell it, save and buy a slightly newer car.
Recently It was stolen and returned to me with the ignition punched out. As a result the ignition is all F**ked up and I can turn it on with a spoon. The car also thinks that the key is always in the ignition which is draining the battery while it is off and has required me to jump start it twice. Besides that the driver window doesn't roll down, it needs an oil change and a few other minor maintenances.
Iv'e called 2 highly recommended repair shops, one quoted the ignition fixes at 400 and the other at 600. My question is do I dish out that money (that I don't really have) or sell it for what it's worth, save for a while and try to get something a little better?

Just IMO - I'd look for good used with key(s) in it! Yup - some get your own places will have keys in them just see it turn and if lucky pick the right colors and be done with it but end up with another key to open door if need be - so what at this point it's already enough miles and old - well depends on how wildly you took care of it and any prior owners,

The car has almost 200K on it. It doesn't owe you anything. Time to move on. It only gets worse from here.

I'd call around some salvage yards and see if you can get hold of either the whole steering column or the steering lock body if you are trying to save some clams. Make sure it comes with the key if you go that route. The lock body new seems to be going for around $150 on line. Labor time to replace is probably around an hour.

So true - easier on most if exact right one to toss whole things not mess with who knows what's AFUed with what some air-head thief did to old one,

Go for it even if you unload the car. Even if you don't do this yourself find the matching column WITH keys in it! Plenty of cars are "junked" for other reasons than this. If possible go look at it in person. See if it mechanically works and car whole still dry windows still in etc.
FYI: If you care and it's the wrong color it's relatively short bucks to "dye" vinyl and plastics it's like spray paint just thinner - ask body shops or suppliers to them either already in cans (Martin Senour Paints) #7267 is black right in front of me I'm low and heading out for some soon! That and White come ready to use at NAPA Auto Parts.
All this I suggested as it sure sounds like fixing the column may not be possible it's been smashed to make it run or whatever was the motive to wreck this,
