Overcharging and battery drains over night

1986 Toyota p/u 22R 300k miles
The battery would drain over night so i would just take a battery cable off and it was fine. But then after a while it would overcharge the battery and it kept getting worse. At first if i ran the heater high beams and wipers the battery light would turn off but that doesnt work anymore and dang near melts the battery.
Only thing i have done to the truck is pull the stereo out.

Do you have a digital volt meter? If so, what is the charging voltage? A faulty alternator regulator will cause an overcharging condition.

Found my meter and its charging at 19.25v. 😲
Would a bad voltage regulator be a source of the battery drainage too?

Don't be so sure it's draining at all. Charging at that rate will fry the battery in pretty short order. It will also do a lot of damage to electrical components in the car.

Got a new alternator and that fixed all problems

You should retest battery as if the one in it now was getting out that 19.25V it took a hit and no question got too hot to trust if more than a few seconds of that. The problem is playing "ping-pong" back and forth with a once failed alternator output and an IDK what or how to trust the battery except long time without problems,
