So today I went to roll the front driver side power window down in my 1998 Toyota RAV4 4door. It would not move I tried the other three and they all work from the driver controls but the front driver window does not work. In the manual it says there all on the same fuse so if the others work it must not be the fuse, right? Whats wrong, is it time to replace the motor for the window or could it be some thing else?

It is either the switch or the motor. can you hear the motor running when you try to make the window go down?

Re: Power Window Not Working Sign In

To add to Jeff's comment: A neat "tool free" test is to have key on, engine off (test that another window works with your key selection) and look at the interior dome light while requesting "up" and then "down" -- light may or may not flicker/dim a smidge with request. Note that it does when a working window moves. If it flickers both ways the motor is highly suspect and if nothing wiring or switch more likely.

If you actually hear motor running then a mechanical fault is indicated,

If you put your ear down by the switch you can hear a slight click after you push the button down. But you cant hear the motor.

Just hearing the switch is a fair sign but it needs to be known if current passes thru it as directed. Typical two wire DC motors are alternating polarity by the switch for motor to turn either way. IE: wire that shows pos in one selection will be neg in the opposite for "up" or "down" request,

Re: Power Window Not Working Sign In

Hey well yesterday I tried the window going to get some fast food and it worked. Can you believe it? maybe some things loose or well it says in the manual that it should work with the key to the on position but wen I was messing with it the first day the engine was off so maybe it has to do with something with the driver window only works with the engine running. I knew I should have waited longer before coming here but I thought I would get ahead.
