Power window not working... Motor or regulator? Sign In

My wife complained that her 2005 Mazda3 driver's window is not working properly. It will go down about 3" before stopping and making a horrible noise. I am able to physically push the window up and down while engaging the window button, but I'm guessing a motor or something has failed.

I took the door off and took two videos. The first video is with the window all the way down and me pushing the button to move it up. It does not move. The second video is of me physically encouraging the window to move up and down while depressing the button. You can hear more of the motor's struggling noises in that video which I was hoping would help a diagnosis.

I'm hoping someone can help me identify the part I need to replace. Do you think it's the motor or regulator? I'm able to replace them individually so if only one is broken, I'd like to save money and effort (especially if it's just the motor since that's a lot easier to access).

Thanks in advance.

It's stripped so get the whole motor and regulator as an assembly like this shown........

Just maybe if you don't have rivets to drill out and no gun that size which is nasty costly you can do this whole. Sold separately too but you really don't save much. ~$183 whole w motor or save just $50 without +/- and if motor gear is the problem as well now you'd be screwed separately. Do use dry silicone spray in rubber channel where glass probably wore off the fuzzy stuff that makes them less work on the motor and repeat that now and then without taking it all apart you can.

"Dry" I mean a spray that doesn't leave goo to hold dirt,

(edit for motor alone..........

OK - Can see that gear is a weak spot too so totally worth getting it whole new. That showed $99 bucks for just that and bet won't fix it alone!)

(Another Edit)

There is a non specific nylon/plastic "cable" if you will for just ~$20 you cut to size might work but could be a real pest to get right and still not work out or for long)

Thanks for your reply. It looks like I can get it off Amazon for $107.

Please don't use links/hyperlinks to specific places.....removed that as a hyperlink......

Up to you where to get parts totally and for what prices. Please just refrain from making the name a hyperlink to the part - I believe you.

This is the highly suggested repair - whole unit as said either way,

T
