We have a '96 Grand Cherokee Ltd (for simplicity reasons i will refer to it as "car" now)since April of last year. The car has spnt more time standing arround in local garages than driving. The main issue the jeep had from day one is:

- During driving the drivers and passangers window would roll down without anyone intending to do so. After this they would not roll back up, when we tried to do so, until the car was turned off and restarted a few times. Sometimes the windows would roll down when the car was started with the same issues.
-The car would never start when the key was taken out of the ignition and put back in, without the doors being locked in between. Something the dealer told us was normal in a Jeep, that the doors have to be locked and unlocked again via remote, to be able to start the vehicle.
- The doorlocks would lock and try to keep locking while driving. Even when the ignition was turned off this would continue going for quite some time until it would stop. We had tried everything we know of, but nothing would fix the problem.
- Then in October last year the car overheated while driving through town. We had it in the local garage again, for quite some time, as we resorted back to our other vehicle for the time being, which was much more reliable.

Now the main issue at the moment is: We are trying to sell the vehicle but will obviously get more if it is actually running. Now when we tried to start it at the garage, the doors would not lock and unlock again (something necessary to get the car to start). The windows rolled down when i tried to start it (as usual by now) but the engine wouldnt turn because the doors werent locked and unlocked again. We replaced the batteries in both remotes we have but to no avail. The remotes dont lock/unlock the doors and the vehicle will not start.

- How can we get the remotes to work? and
- what might be the issue for the windows and doorlocks problem during driving as discribed earlier?

Re: Problem with '96 Grand Cherokee Ltd Sign In

You have a module that controls the windows and the door locks. There is a separate module for the drivers and passengers side. There is also a Body Computer Module or BCM that helps control both. Both the door lock circuit and the window circuit share the same + and - CCD BUS. These appear to be the only common circuits in the diagrams other than a couple of common grounds per side. But the CCD BUS is common for both sides. The BCM is a good place to start as far as trying to solve your problem. Mayby direct the shop in that area. Good Luck
