Replacing missing cig lighter Sign In

1998 ford Taurus se/130000miles/6 cylinder

On my 1998 Ford taurus se stationwagon I have the drop down ashtray/cig lighter. Except the whole lighter part is missing so I have no avenue to plug in and charge my phone or such. There appears to be a small wire with an end that looks like it can plug into something. Do I just need to go buy a cig lighter unit and it just plugs into that wire?

indy; That should work. That plug should have 12V to it with the ignition on.

When they hit .50 a pack, I'm done! LOL... I remember .17 a pack, .25 out of the machines. Machines? Cigarette machines? Yep.

For some reason, reading the title of this post made me think of Jake throwing Elwoods cigarette lighter out of the window of his "cop car" with it's "cop shocks" Sly

Don't worry, I am a smoker.

You may be able to pick up the power sockets aftermarket, you will need to cut the pigtail off of the wires and wire the hot wire to the center terminal and the ground wire to the body. Not hard to do and the parts should be available at any supply house.

Re: Replacing missing cig lighter Sign In

I'm a smoker too. Never, never use the cars cig lighter or ash tray! Makes a mess and a power port works better for devices to charge instead of a real lighter. You can get a generic power port so you don't have to have the ash tray open on the cars that have the slide out tray and place it where you want using an existing dash screw. The side walls of a real lighter are sticky vs a power port - looks similar but ground sidewalls are smooth and work better. Just my 4 cent (hey prices went up)
