I drive a '95 Ford Crown Victoria and recently replaced the back driver side window regulator. prior to installation you could hear the motor whyrr when you tried to put it down, afterwords the window goes down and up nice and fast, but the moment (while putting it up) the glass comes within about 2 inches from the top of the window the mechanism almost grinds to a stop and (while holding up on the pad) the glass will jump about a quarter inch ever few seconds until it reaches the top. if it gets that far. we tried to fix it with graphite powder but that didnt seem to do anything. i have a similar problem with the passenger front window but its slow in the middle and at the top while going up, the other two windows are perfectly fine. the windows do seem to go up faster while the car is on, and slower when i try to use more than one at a time. if anyone has encountered a problem like this and managed to fix it, please help me. :D

That window needs to come apart again to inspect it. They my have the channel out of place or pinched somewhere. Either way you going to ruin that new regulator real soon if you continue using it that way. The glass is jamming and you need to find out why. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

OK, update: So I opened up my door again and took out the glass; now without the weight of the glass hampering(if that could be the issue) the motor, the metal piece that attaches to the glass has no problems whatsoever going up or down. I then lightly ran a flat head screwdriver through both sides of the guide rails to check for inconsistencies and found none. I was thinking of greasing the little metal cross section that attaches to the window so that it can move up and down easier, but I'm not sure if it might gunk up the wire... Also, could you explain to me what you mean by "They my have the channel out of place or pinched somewhere."? do you mean the glass might be out of place? and whats this "channel"? Thanks and I beg for a speedy reply :D

The channel I refer to is the rubber insert that goes inside the window channel. It can be torn, folded over somewhere or just not seating all the way into the channel.

Yes, lubricate the slide where the regulator attaches to the metal frame at the bottom of the glass. We use 'white' grease for this. You can get it at any parts store. Also, clean the glass very good. Spray the channels with silicone spray after you've inspected them for abnormalities as Hammer suggested. Loren SW Washington
