Last night the front passenger side power window stopped working. Neither the driver door button nor the passenger side button will move it, it doesn't make any noise or move in the slightest when I push them. I can't push it up or down manually, either. Is this likely to be a burnt out motor or some other problem I will have to take it to a shop for? Or could it be a simple wiring problem I could fix myself? I have almost no experience in car repair but work on other types of electronics fairly regularly.

You can do a test to get a good maybe on what it is by turning ign key to run position, engine off and - see another window works to make sure - then look at dome light when requesting it to go up or down. It will ficker/dim a bit as many failed motors still draw current. You could watch that with a voltmeter too. If nothing changes that test in inconclusive. If you can tell it's drawing power and not working it's almost always the motor. Wiring only problems are rare for a passenger door unless it gets used as much as the driver's and are frequently where they have to bend in the door hinge area. A good shop will test the power before they replace it. You can't move a window - motor will not turn with that force, good luck,

Thanks Tom! I'll give that a whirl. I called a friend of mine who owns an autoshop, he told me that it was likely the motor, and gave me an estimate of $160 labor + ~$70 parts to fix it. That sounds fair to me, is that in the ballpark?

i am officially retarded. I just got this car a few days ago and didn't realize it had a lock button for the power windows. They work fine- it's my brain that was broken. Anyway, thanks for trying to help me with my non-existent problem!

Don't feel alone! With the wide variety of cars and features things like that happen all the time. It happens to techs also with all the various features of so many different vehicles out there. The post is NOT a waste as it may happen to someone else and they may read all this here. Best thing for all folks to do is read (I know it's boring) owner's manuals and don't lose them. They contain valuable information on how things operate, capacities, and exact instructions on how to change a tire, fuse locations etc. Happy motoring,
