My toyota yaris 2006 sedan seems to be having problems with its electrical components as the dashboard lights no longer turn on when I turn on the head lights. I can see the fuel gauge fine but the rest of the dashboard is pitch black.

*My car doesn't have a dimming switch and I have checked the fuses in the bonnet and in front of the passengers seat.

I first started realizing that something was wrong with the electricals when about 1 month ago (when I turned on the headlights), the dashboard lights wouldn't turn on. But, I quickly fixed the problem temporarily by turning the headlights off then on. This fixed the problem for about a week and then simply turning off and on the headlights wasn't doing the job.

I had to wait for about a minute after I turned off the headlights now. So after a minute, turning on the headlights would also turn on the dashboard lights.
This worked again for about another week, but now none of those tricks would fix the problem, not even temporarily.

*Note that during those weeks, I didn't touch the fuse boxes.

Does anyone know what it may be? I appreciate the help in advance.

Regards,
Anthony

Are you sure about that? I have never seen a car without a dash dimmer.

If your dash is partially lighting up in response to turning the lights on, then the problem is likely in the circuit board for the dash cluster but it needs to be troubleshooted further.

The illumination dimmer switch should be right next to the mirror control switch. Your owner's manual should tell you where it is at. Maybe you turned it off with your knee.

There is definitely no dimmer control switch for the Yaris 2006. I've even checked in the manual. I will take the advice though about the circuit-board. That seems most probable cause to the dash failing to light up.

Thanks for your posts guys. I will call up my mechanic when the new week starts. That's probably my best bet.

Thanks again though.
