Transplant car seat from a Toyota Camry to a Holden Astra? Sign In

Hi there,

I just bought a 2006 Holden Astra CDX and I am really happy with it except for one thing: Lower back pain from the seat. I wouldn't say it's a bad seat, but I have a fairly serious lower back issue which makes sitting tricky in general. Some seats feel good, others irritate my lower back. My old 2001 Toyota Camry has always been great on my lower back and it's next home will be the wreckers so I'm thinking it's a no brainer to transplant the seat over, if it's doable. I know there are Recaro ergonomic seats out there but with my back I don't find 'ergonomic' seats necessarily better for me so it would be an expensive gamble.

Does anyone know how much someone might charge to do this? Will it cause issues with regard to the electronics in the car? Are there safety concerns related to the air bag?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

First off, we don't have that vehicle here in the US but the chances of the floor of the 2 cars being the same shape and the seat mounting the same way are almost nil. They are likely totally different framework.

Ditto - I doubt this is the solution and feel for your back. Two totally different vehicles would make this a massive project. If your Holden has safety or controls that are electrical undoing that is a problem. The Toyota does at least the ones sold to the US adding to near impossible headaches to do this.

You may find just altering the plain padding and upholstery of the original seat a more viable option that also keeps the car intact just customized for your specific needs.
There may be another model of a Holden that will both fit and be more to your liking.

Tough call all around. I've known many people change vehicles totally over just this, essentially this vehicle is not for you,
