Troubleshooting chevy astro signal light issue Sign In

Hey everyone, thank you in advance for any help! I am very new to automotive electric, I am an electrician but never have worked on a vehicle. I recently bought a 2005 Chevy Astro work van that was an insurance total loss from a small accident. I do not know any maintenance history on this vehicle.

The issue is this, the front driver side signal light will not turn off.
-When I push the signal switch to left turn, both front and back driver side signals flash as normal.
-When I push the signal light to right turn, the passenger signals both flash and the driver side front signal still flashes
-When I put the signal to its resting position, the front driver side signal light continues to flash.

I started with changing the bulbs and cleaning the sockets. Next I replaced the flasher relay. Both attempts were with no fix. My next step was to replace the signal switch assembly at the steering wheel, I removed the switch assembly, turned the vehicle back on and the flashing stopped. I am not sure if this means I have found the issue or simply stopped the flashing because I killed the power to the entire signal light system and the issue will just reappear with a new switch. I would skip posting on this forum and just replace the switch but my trial and error is getting pricey as a new switch is upwards of 500 dollars! I am reluctant to try a used switch in the vehicle because of the amount of time it will take me to remove one at a wrecker that I can not assure is functional. I am stubborn and I enjoy learning as I go which is why I havent gone to a mechanic. Thanks again for any advice or better yet solutions!!

I should clarify that the signal light I have an issue with flashes and is not solidly lit.

As long as some rigging wasn't done to the turn signal lamp circuits, it will probably be a faulty turn signal switch. The turn signal switch allows power from the flasher to go to the lamps. The only way the power gets to the lamps from the flasher is through the switch.

If you jiggle and push the hazard switch, which is part of the turn signal switch, does the problem correct itself?

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Somewhat, I played with the hazard button and was able to make the signal stop flashing but I had to hold it in the perfect spot and once I had done that I never did try to operate the signal switch.
Thanks for the reply!
