Truck intermittently won’t start

Hello I recently got my truck back after having another motor put in at a NAPA repair facility. BEFORE that I had the truck at a different shop before the motor was put in and they put a used PCM in the truck Thinking that was the problem not the motor... long story there.. but that shop turned out to be a rip off so now I have a used PCM and a used motor in my truck. Truck ran great after I picked it up for two weeks.. I came out one day and hit the switch and it just clicked, odometer needles started bouncing around weirdly.. the mileage went to zeros I can hear a clicking noise near the firewall under the hood . This happened five times since the only way most times I can get it to start is if I pull the positive terminal for 10 minutes and put it back on then it will start great maybe five or six times in a row. I don’t know if it’s a issue with the used PCM the mechanic after I took it back checked all the positive and negative connections and said he found nothing and of course it wouldn’t do it while I was at his shop I can attached two videos here with what the truck does when this happens I just can’t see where... if someone has any help would be greatly appreciated. It’s a 2005 Ford F-350 5.4 Triton Automatic 4x4

This type of problem just has to be systematically tracked using a wiring diagram to determine where in the circuit the issue is occuring. Also not that the used PCM would have required programming as the VIN has to match other modules so it can communicate properly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

? For the moment just because you said it can work a few times and escapes diagnosis just might be more basic than is noticed and can be very common. Follow both positive and negative battery cables anyway you can make as sure as you can by feel and looks first, weak spots on to starter (positive) and to engine block (negative) virtually all do this. The negative at the block may be loose, corroded eyelet end at an impossible spot to easily remove and really see it, clean it, grease it and put back. If just that has that intermittent connection anything electrical will go nuts as you see. Damage possible odd it can run well though IMO then repeat. Both must be good, clean and kept lubed is now old enough or too old if not done along the way most would fail in a working truck a 350 would normally be. If so and that solves it run a second GROUND cable and another from either or both battery to body metal and low on block to body metal and frame on this is isolated by rubber everywhere springs included. Strong hunch is the source of many problems may not be all, T

That's another clue! Many batteries vent to the sides, not on top. Some moisture is too much! That is acid and will corrode anything near it. That even slight dirt/damp can drain current out enough to draw voltage and discharge the battery more than some expected loss to keep certain other items alive with memory - even a clock. If room and safe to where it is, use baking soda and rinse then clean the whole thing. If battery and truck isn't a lost cause (most can and need to be used to work of this type) get an AGM battery I think now can get up to 1,100 CCA (cold cranking amps) is real and doesn't make gas or vapor without a disaster happening to it. Other on just this bit: If this truck was set up for two batteries and now using ONE. OMG, take a real good look how it should have been if back to just one. This doesn't mean there aren't still problems lurking just if this is always part of the problem you'll never get this fixed and last, T

So that’s a yes, this battery could be my culprit?

It might be a source of trouble but not necessarily the solution. It has already corroded cable right there was acid from it. Now what else took a hit? Not from right there but incorrect voltage and amps delivered to anything electrical. Know that the starter motor (unless you have other accessories for a very HD truck) is the most one shot draw of power from a battery in this case doesn't "intermittently" so the next weakest link like a chain is straining. Seems whacked but the weak spots will suffer from heat and then corrode even more and faster is why I said both cables beginning to ends must be known good. That can be tested with a DVOM but if it's choosy like this might show it's fine and we know it isn't! T

If you have one post that is constantly corroding, then you may have gases leaking up through the post of the battery. They are sealed from the factory but that seal can be broken and cause those issues. The baking soda trick will definitely dissolve the corrosion but if any gets into the battery it will damage it. Dipping the terminal into a cup of boiling water will also clean it very good.

If you need this truck just dump that battery. Ask for AGM 2X costs but none of this crap, T

Just clean the cable ends real good when you change the battery. Spread a layer of grease over them when finished.
