Turn signal troubles ?? Sign In

I have a 1990 Mazda B4000 with turn signal problems. The right turn signal works fine but the left doesn't. Both front and rear bulbs light (In desperation I replaced both bulbs with new ones even though the old ones worked Crazy...) I had the truck out the other day and while manually flipping the lever up and down I noticed it making the normal clicking sound. I tried it and it worked. Five minuets later when I left the store it stopped working again....I looked around on the web to see if I could come up with a solution but had no luck. There was talk about flasher units but from what I understood the flasher worked for the left and right signal. Is it possible there are two flasher units for the turn signals ????. The hazard lights work fine...

Any HELP would be GREATLY appreciated...

Thanks

Do the bulbs light but not blink or not light with just turn signal?

Flasher should be the same for left or right.

You might be able to swap directional flasher for the hazzard flasher for a test.

If the don't light with the request from lever than it's likely a problem in the steering column,

Both you & Tom are right that there is only one flasher for right & left turn and in this case the four ways also use the same flasher.
Common sense tells us that it can’t be the flasher but for some reason it usually is.
For whatever reason when the left side is on by itself, it’s either drawing to much or not enough current flow to trigger the unit to flash?
Now if the left side looks brighter or dimmer then the right or if a side or cornering light isn’t working on the left; find the reason for that first. But if both sides look the same, try the flasher; it may just be weak?

SORRY about that last post I screwed up.....When I engage the turn signal the bulbs do light but do not blink. I'll give the hazard flasher unit a try and see what happens....I checked all the other lights ...cornering and everything else seems ok...The brightness from one side to the other seems the same... that is when the right side isn't doing the bright flash and is dimmer...It's dark out now and I just came in from checking things out. I turned the headlights on and noticed that the indicator light on the dash for the left signal is lit (not blinking) when the signal isn't engaged...

Thanks guys for your response,

Carl
