VW golf sensor issues

Hi all first time on and looking for some help please. Just bought my daughter her first car which is a 1998 VW Golf GLI Mk3 2.0ltr, got it very cheap as it has 202000k on the clock but finding it may not have been such a good deal. Anyway been doing some work on it the last few weeks and found the Crank angle sensor wires stripped bare so I bought a new one and replaced it, (car was running fine before hand) Finally got car ready yesterday for the big surprise for her B'day and handed her the keys. She jumped in and called my 10mins later that it had broke down, I can't tell you how bad that felt. Been having a play today to try find out the problem so I'll list it as best I can at the moment. Car started firt time no problems Went for a short drive, stayed close to home in case I broke down - no problems Returned home ( car still running) in driveway and started gently tugging at conections to try get it to stop - no issues Went for another drive up and down street - car cut out Waited five mins - car started Back home again - car cut out in driveway Cursed car - had breakfast - cursed car again - car started Let car heat up again - drive up and down street Car cut out - all other electrics still working - fuel gauge and temp gauge, lights still got power Rev counter drops like a stone when cuts out, not a struggle and cut out it's more of a drop the revs through the floor cut out. Leave for five mins it starts again and runs for a few mins more before doing it again Gets harder and harder to start each time it cuts but if you leave for a while it starts again first time Like I said before replacing the sensor it run fine I drove it 50k from the guy I bought it which is leading me to think I may have a faulty new sensor Anyone with any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.

In order to diag a no start condition you have to figure out what is missing when it's acting up spark or fuel. You can get a fuel pressure tester at most autoparts store through a loan a tool program. If the wire was stripped back for the crank sensor I would be suspecious. Did the crank sensor look new? When it's acting up disconnect the crank sensor and use a volt meter across the sensor terminals and have a assistant crank it and see if it produces a voltage. Make sure the connector is clean not damaged/chorroded. Thats where you can start for now anyways.
