Windows, Locks and Turn Signal Sign In

I have a 2000 Mercury Sable with 160K on it, and just recently the power windows started working only sometimes, and then soon after the power locks started working only sometimes, and now my front right turn signal does not ever work.
As time goes on, the locks and signal work less frequently, but the locks work far more often than the windows.

I initially checked the fusebox, but none appeared blown. Could it be a faulty wire?

I am a starving college student and have no money for mechanics, but I'm handy. Is this something I can fix myself? What should I read up on?

schneider; Sounds like you've got more than one thing going on, here.
The windows: Do they work okay at each individual door (other than the driver's door)? Sounds like a driver's door master switch problem.
The door locks: Same thing.
Turn signal: Do the turn signal bulbs (front and rear) come on, just don't blink? Could be a faulty flasher.
Try to be as specific as you can with the symptoms.

Re: Windows, Locks and Turn Signal Sign In

I just checked, and the windows do not work at any window other than the driver's door.

The driver's window will only go down if I open the door and press the button, and then close the door and press the button again. Then to roll it up I have to open the door and press the button, and then close the door and try the button again.
When I press the button and the window doesn't go up, I hear a rapid clicking sound that seems to be coming from below and to the right of the steering wheel, and also my car beeps (like it does when the driver's door is open, but only one beep) and the dome lights flicker. The clicking, beep, and lights
only happen when I press the button for the window to go up, and not when I press to go down.

I tried this process with the other doors, and it didn't work. I also don't hear the clicking sound when I push the buttons on the other doors.

The door locks work on the passenger side all the time, even when the driver's side button doesn't work. There are no automatic locks in the back seat.

The turn signal light in the front does not come on at all, but the rear light works normally, but blinks much faster, like signals do when one burns out. If I weren't having the other electrical problems I would have just assumed the light burned out. Maybe it's a coincidence and not related?

Re: Windows, Locks and Turn Signal Sign In

schneider; The front turn signal bulb is surely burned out. That would explain the rapid blinking.
The window/power door lock situation is puzzling. On the driver's door, at the front, will be a flexible rubber tubing that all of the wires for those controls run through. More than once, I've found broken or partially broken wires in there. From all of the door openings and closings. You'll need to remove the master switch, and see if you are losing power or ground to it. Jiggle that tubing while you are testing the switch.
