Wiring fog lights with turn signals Sign In

I run with my lights on all the time as well as my fog lights in my 2003 Outback. It has factory fog lights and I put an amber/orange Luminex skin on them so they are almost exactly the same color as my turn signals and parking lights. I'm in a high traffic/high accident area and I want all the visibility that I can get. There's never any fog around here and I've never used my fog lights for fog in the 16 years I've had this Outback.

I want to wire my fog lights so they blink in sync with my turning signals. I'm a bit handy with auto electrics so the actual mods don't concern me, it's the design that I can't get. If the fog lights were off, I could tap into the existing turn signal hot wire and run that to a relay and then from the relay directly to the fog lights. But with the fog lights already on that won't work.

Any ideas?

? Why ? Just turn the fog lights on every time you go out and avoid a lot of potential problems. Relay and all just sensing that draw has to put some load on existing directionals right back up into steering column just may not be happy about that.

You said they are already amber so I don't see why you'd want to mess with it,

Re: Wiring fog lights with turn signals Sign In

This is a really foolish idea.

First off, running fog lights 100% of the time will ultimately melt the sockets from the constant heat.

Second, it is illegal to change the color of any lights on the vehicle. Lens colors are Federally mandated.

Third, you cannot flash a high current light like that. there are no flashers calibrated to that much load. The load determines the rate of flash.
