toyota 2005 corolla, 4 door sedan, 1.8L
My new car! I attempting to disable the daytime running lights.
I found instructions, on the web, that says to cut the yellow wire coming from the running lights relay assembly. Here's the photo of what I found under the steering column. I see a yellow lighter gauge wire (there is one heavier yellow with a black stripe).
I don't have a manual for this car or schematics. Can anyone verify this?
Tried to upload a photo but says account not valid.
edit. just tried a link set aside to upload to the forum. Did it work? Can't tell.

I'll never know for sure but just pull the fuse out I think most on their own marked or in owner's manual DRL. A light will come on and stay on in dash lights just be aware they are not working.
IDK the rules for everywhere, dumb to force it (not my job) all the time for every situation 100 years ago smart to have lights on as a notice you were there.
Not this but another alternator quit I was driving another's car/thing it only lasted 1/2 hour with lights on daytime, not needed could have lasted longer an EMERGENCY life threatening at hand - stupid sh*t kills!

PLEASE stop listening to Dr. Google
DO NOT cut any wires. They are telling you to cut the power supply wire to the DRL module. The problem with doing that is that module controls ALL the lighting in the car. There is no "running lights relay". They call it that but it is actually a module.
I don't know if it will work on that car but on some cars if you apply the parking brake by only one click, enough to turn the warning light on but not drag the brakes.
Other than that, you are just going to have to live with the lights.

1. Daytime Running Light Operation
When the engine is started, voltage generated at TERMINAL L of the generator is applied to TERMINAL 8 of the daytime running light relay. If the parking brake lever is pulled up (Parking brake SW on) at this time, the relay is not activated so the daytime running light system does not operate. If the parking brake lever is then released (Parking brake SW off), a signal is input to TERMINAL 11 of the relay.
Once the daytime running light system operates and the headlights light up, the headlights remain on even if the parking brake lever is pulled up (Parking brake SW on).

oops.
Well I pulled the fuse #31 'ECU-B' "daytime running light system" and no change. Replaced the fuse.
Cut the wire and put the module side to ground (an open floating wire didn't work). Success.
I did motor the hand brake and was going to follow that signal to the module. But I'm too old to. I can't bend like that.
I guess I lucked out this time. I was ready to repair the damage. I don't think the wire I cut was power. It was 20 guage - not the thick yellow/black? But, it seems to work. I'll drive her around tonight and report back.
After that second post I'm ready for the car to blow up. Was looking at shop manuals for this unit and... wow... they want a lot!

How about leave them alone and let it be. Stupid ideas for cars isn't new. Just leave them alone and forget making a problem you don't have?

All lights work properly.
I exercised the yellow mystery wire. I started the car with the wire open and the lights came on.
I stopped the engine and then grounded the wire. The lights stayed off when the car was again started. Leaving the car running, I opened the wire and the lights came on. Grounding again did nothing. I conclude this is a hand brake signal. The signal must be created in some other module, or divided, because I still get my brake light when the manual brake is engaged.
