What year is the engine you put in the truck?? Could you just put the original distributor from the truck into the new engine?? If it’s a big block or a small block...305, 350 or 454 it doesn’t matter,(unless it's a tall deck, heavy duty truck big block 366 or 427) your original distributor should fit in the new engine. If I remember correctly there should be a wire harness coming from the base of the distributor that connects to the cap and also a power wire from the truck that connects to the cap. If your truck has a tachometer there will be an additional wire from the truck that connects to the cap next to where the power wire connects. I’m going from memory but I think this is correct. Brian.

I believe the 85 pick-up had what was call EST (electronic spark timing) A very basic controller (computer) that had the ability to control some basic fuel mixture and timing adjustments. It also had the ability to screw up very easily and make these trucks almost undrivable. If your replacement engine has the basic distributor with the one three wire harness coming out of the base you’ll be fine using it. Just forget about the other four or six wire connector coming from the trucks wiring harness that went to the original distributor. I’ll only add that the EST system was an emissions device; disabling the system maybe illegal; it is in my area anyway. Dan. Canadian "EH"

i thought it might have been the EST system, but i wasnt 100%sure,not worried about emissions as its over the 20 year mark,so i can just change it over to a reg style distributor,i dont have to jump or remove any wires,,sweet thanks for the help
