heat/Air fan problems

2005 Toyota Tacoma 192k miles Hello, The heat/air fan in my Tacoma started acting flaky recently. It's intermittent. It seems to fail first on the lowest fan speed, other speeds may work and it likely always works on the high speed. If I run the fan speed switch back and forth several times it's likely to start working on all positions. Also, at times pressing the recirculate button (Max A/C) would wake up the different fan speeds. The other day I had a 7 hour drive, so lots of time to trouble shoot/make observations. At the start it only worked on high speed in both the A/C on and off modes. Something I noticed this time was if I pressed the recirculate button the fan would shut down completely (it was definitely blowing at high speed if Max A/C off). After a few hundred miles I just ran the fan speed switch back and forth and it's been working since. I'm wondering if I'm looking at a replacement fan speed switch or do I maybe have a sticky relay that responds to tickling of the fan speed switch. Or maybe it's something more sinister? Thanks!

The only way your going to know for sure is to do some circuit checks. You'll need a VOM (volt ohm meter). Digital one is preferable. You could start by doing some visual inspections. Inspect the blower motor and resistor connectors. Look for anything out of the ordinary. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
