interior guages Sign In

I have a 2000 chevy silverado 2500 4/4 ext. cab 6.0 litre with 131,000 miles. I am having problems with the guage lights going on and off whenever. I also am having problems with the gas guage going up and down whenever as well. Any answers?

sounds like it could be a bad connection at the gauge cluster or a bad ground on the gauge cluster circuit. not saying this is for sure but something to look at.

Was watching this one oxracing and was thinking grounds all over the place. There's so much plastic in a dash that they'll hide a braided strap to ground things usually without coated insulation.

On ground side, battery should go right to engine block then they'll add block to body, body to frame.

Neat test light at Wallyworld is LED and just $5 bucks. Power it backwards and should light either red or green when you hit something that's grounded. Hard part if it won't stay broke if you will it can be inconclusive as intermittent things are.

So much is rubber isolated or plastic they put the dang things everywhere front to rear in vehicles.

Just general they will use a insulated ground to things like for you doors (lights - whatevers) and not just count on the hinge. Not the case here with those symptoms but both issues at once is as said - probably one connection or a ground to instrument panel for now doing this,

This cluster is controlled by the PCM and they have a very high failure rate. If only has one main plug going into it so it's not likely a connection problem..

Re: interior guages Sign In

Am working on sierra same year and model with charging probs. has partial ground short leading to guage cluster. owner also noted erratic fuel guage. I have read of guage clusters being replaced by GM on the net but can't get any Dealerships to admit to it. I have called a few to satisfy my curiosity. My problem is still ongoing, well...my friends problem that I am trying to resolve.
