jeep rubicon burnt bulbs Sign In

Driving with my friend in his 2010 jeep rubicon with the 3.8 and his rear directional wasn't working , we took off the lens and it worked for a moment then quit , he says the bulbs keep burning out and that once the wire along the bulbs body was toasted , the old one did look dark and a new one worked , it's been customized with extra lights and the wiring I saw was not very professional for what he paid IMO , Any ideas as far as power surges or what we can check ? Thanks .

I doubt power surges but if you must check/monitor it thru a power port driving around or assorted RPMs see if it stays in range.
Bulbs? Bad batch? They can flicker and work for a second then burn out.
#1 they don't like being wet - is this one staying dry. Bulb grease used for sockets?

? Substandard wiring for extra lights? Why and why not fix that just because you should but doubt that burns out a bulb,

You should have the extra lighting wiring fiasco checked out and any discrepancies repaired first.

Thanks I'll let him know , . When I saw that the bulbs were sylvania I told him get something else , one bad experience with them and I don't buy anything with their name on it . I told him the wiring looks shabby too , it's him and his girl friends problem , thanks again .

That ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with Sylvania bulbs.

I just meant it's possible brand name or not including Sylvania. It's happened as I would buy boxes of 10 depending. If known original toss all directional bulbs not just one or all brake light and bam - vehicle has a blown bulb in a week then another and another so toss them all again.

Only point is it does happen. In that case they never blew again same bulb type different batch,

Sylvania bulbs have been around as long as me and I never saw any problems with them.
