On my 98 olds intrigue when I shut off the car the running lights stay on and I have to unhook the battery cable. The car is equiped with a command start and I shut that off and I still have the problem. This all started when I was driving down the road and I turned on the headlights and then I went to shut off the car and the running lights stayed. We have taken it to get a diagnostic check and it read nothing. Could be the switch on the steering column, or a short, or just taking off the whole command start?

Assuming your talking about front and rear, not just DRLs, it would likely be a bad headlamp switch but it would have to be troubleshooted by following a wiring diagram to actually find the problem.

Please don't start another question to respond to this one. I deleted your other response.

If it's only the Daytime running lights coming on then it could be a whole different problem because that's controlled by a module.
