04 Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi Check Engine Light	Sign In

My check engine light came on after starting my truck earlier tonight. I noticed that when I start the truck, my RPMs were considerably higher than usual, and after a little while, the tachometer would drop back down to normal very choppily. This change in idling RPM is the only weird thing that I have noticed. I know for a fact that my IAT sensor got a little messed up while installing my cold air intake. The plastic housing around it broke and the actual tip of the sensor got bent. The grommet provided to fit the sensor into the intake tube is a little too big as well. I'm wondering if maybe this is giving me problems now that it's cold out and some time has passed? I don't know a great deal about engines so I'm not sure how plausible that theory is but I figured I'd mention it. Any suggestions about what this could be would be super helpful. Thanks

Basics with change of seasons, colder and weaker stuff takes a hit plus fuel formulas change for Nov. 1st. You said you have broken parts you can see if they once worked* they would again if replaced.

Plastics hate extremes so do rubber items, can't help that.
*What is the cold air intake you spoke of? Not familiar if these were some OE deal or common aftermarket failure - cold air isn't useful for cold engines nor it hot OE thought of that so if an alteration perhaps get rid of that junk will only cause problems,

Hell yeah those things will give you problems. Leaks of unmetered air entering into the system will cause lean codes and idle speed problems. A damaged IAT will change the fuel mixture.

You need to have the codes read first and then repair the known problems and then see where you stand.

The smartest thing you could do is throw that aftermarket intake away. It has no benefit at all and just creates more problems.
