04 Mazda RX8 with 4speed manual/auto trans with 74,000 miles. Car was running rough and would occasionally stall in idle. Mazda did a diagnosis and said plugs, wires, ignition coils and clean throttle body.

They did not mention nor include in their diagnosis that there were:

2097, 0133, 0172 and 0335 - Cat trim, 02 ckt slow, system too rich and crankshaft position sensor malf.

Did the plugs, wires, IG coils and cleaned the TB. There is still a very slight hesitation when starting from stop, but otherwise the car runs smoothly, shifts smoothly.
n
Cleared the codes and drove the car for awhile and

The check engine light is on and with my Actron CP 9180 I get codes U0100 (Lost communication with ECM PCM A) and Code U0101 (lost communication with TCM)

Neet help and explanation. What could have caused that and what is a possible fix?

Which module set that code? You need to go through each module with your scanner and find out if you can communicate with them all and see if they are storing their own trouble codes. I have a feeling your chasing a ghost though. Your scanner has to have the capability of getting into the manufacture side of the PCM. Sometimes the manufacture side will store trouble codes that don't appear on the OBD2 side.

List of modules:
- PCM
- EPS control module
- TCM(AT)
- ABS HU/CM (with ABS)
- DSC HU/CM (with DSC)
- Instrument cluster
- Steering Angle Sensor (with DSC)
- Keyless Control Module
- TPMS Control Module
