How dis you get the timing set when you changed the belt?

OK, I don't know what marks you lined up but this engine has no marks.

He has only had the car a couple of years. We brought #1 up to top and there were lines painted on like it had been changed before. Car starts and runs fine but check engine light stays on the its throwing codes P1381 & P1383 with my OBD2 reader.

Not sure it's original motor has marking on it like maybe a junk yard motor. I do know it's a 4 cyc 2.5

You installed the belt incorrectly.
You CANNOT use marks to align this belt, even if you marked it before removing it. This is a VCT engint and the VCT actuator has to be centered or it will set codes all day long. The cam gears have to be loosened from the cams to let them freewheel. Then it requires special tools than lock the cams and crank into position so the gears can be locked down in the relaxed position at the correct timing.

Whoooo back up. The VIN you gave me is for a DOHC 2.0 VCT engine. You can't simply swap engines to something different.

So we can't fix it with the wrong motor in it?? When he bought the car the motor had already been changed. My other son-in-law helped me replace the timing belt and he did everything your saying, so I don't know why it's still throwing codes unless this motor just won't work with this car!! I never thought about that I work on the older cars and trucks this computer crap I don't like!!

No, you can't have the wrong motor in it. The operating system is for one motor and only one motor. I don't know how you possibly even bought parts without knowing what motor you have and don't lie to me and tell me he did everything I said because I asked you how it was done before giving instructions and you told me you used marks. I'm done here. I can't help people that just make stuff up/

I didn't make stuff up. There are marks painted on it. But my other son-in-law knows more about it and did loosen everything you said. I have never messed with one so I pretty much just watched. He said everything was done right and he thinks the codes are for the sensor. I just wanted to ask someone to see if it's worth putting more money into or just junk it. The one who replaced the timing belt said it isn't the original motor but I didn't know that would effect the codes.

You don't have the special tools required to set it and you aren't even the one doing the work so this whole thing is futile.
