2002 Chevrolet
Silverado 2500
ext cab, 6.0L.
94,000 miles.

I recently purchased the truck from a local dealer. The next day the service engine light came on (P0332, knock sensor 2 circuit low), and the truck wasn't starting on the first attempt (would turn over a few times, then when I would release the key then try again and it would start up) the dealership did replace the both sensors (so they say), and the battery.

You guessed it, the next day we took a short trip, and the light came on after 15 minutes (same code P0332). We did some reading online, and replaced the fuel pressure regulator (thinking that could be causing issues with the fuel pressure causing the starting issue). I had the code reset, and you're correct, after driving for 10-15 minutes the light came back on.

Long story short, I got ahold of a fuel pressure gauge. the fuel line was bleeding on pressure very quickly. my next step was to replace the fuel pump assemble, and fuel filter. This fixed my starting issues, I then reset the check engine light. I took the vehicle for a 10-15 minute drive, and the light didn't come on. fast forward to the next day, the truck is still starting right up (Yay), and we decided to take it for another short drive, after a short trip through town, I set the cruse control at 55 and drove about 15 minutes. When I was starting to get excited that maybe we found the issue. YUP, the light comes on.... Stopped to read the code on the way home P0332!

I don't hear any ticking/knocking, everything feels good, acceleration/power ext. after doing some more reading a faulty EGR could be causing the code?

What should I do? keep replacing parts (that may/not need to be replaced)? take it to a mechanic? please help, I can get access to most tools/equipment, but I am out of ides and I feel like this truck is going to nickel and dime me.

Are you sure they replaced the knock sensors? It's a big job and requires removing the intake manifold. They sit in a valley and have a known problem with water filling the recess and causing problems with the sensors.

They had the vehicle for 5 hours, and gave me a receipt. But I am also starting to question if they actually changed the sensors. I am just not excited about removing the intake manifold just to check.

You may be able to see under there with a mirror or scope. There are 2 of them. Did they replace both?

Another time and for some repairs ask for the old parts if not of value as a core to rebuild wouldn't be these.

If nothing else you have spares if those were NOT the problem. Just a thought not meant to distrust the techs you paid for them new hope they are??

I will give that a try this weekend. going to try my hand in doing some electrical testing. testing the wiring harness, ECM, ect. lets hope we can find the issue (and its not an expensive repair! replacing the harness vs the ECM)

That's probably futile. There isn't much you can test without removing the manifold. The sensor is a very common failure on those.
