And everyone wants to own a Jaguar but not the service costs that go with it. You have no idea what it takes to be able to service one.

Re: 2004 Jaguar VDP dsc not available code Sign In

With different car lines it really comes down to available info & tools. There are a few good lines of aftermarket tools and most of them cover the same makes & models. A lot of shops and techs start off with these (me included) just for the fact that for the price, with one tool they can cover a lot of lines. With OE tools, this is obviously the best route to go but you're buying the same tools for each make you want to work on.....This gets very expensive....

So with the makes that aren't covered by AM tooling, most shops don't service them so car owners choices are limited. The dealer or shops that are gear towards those makes are pretty much it. This is an expensive investment for these shops in tools and training, both which are hard to come by, also throw in the fact that these are all high end lines, so this means that parts are expensive as well.

So when you factor in all the costs to service this line plus some can be a little more complicated to even diagnose it works out to be a very expensive car to maintain.

Personally this is a line I don't normally work on except for some basic servicing..... I'm mainly Asian & Domestic, the cost and time involved in keeping up todate with these is almost more than I can handle. I really didn't even see any specific codes in your post to even take a blind guess at..

The one bit of advise I can give you here that might save you a lot of money is take this car to someone who is qualified to work on it. There are shops out there with very little training and even less tools that believe they can work on anything..... Sometimes they get lucky on the simple stuff and other times wind up "hacking" a car up so bad it winds up costing double, triple or more at a qualified shop to fix. 1st they have to fix the original problem and then fix all the other things that got fried by the 1st shop......
