2004 chevy trailblazer-4.2liter-78k miles
Wifes truck--She called and said the truck was all of a sudden running real sluggish.....max speed 5-10mph-Has had "check engine"lite on for about 3-4 weeks---Just now when the sluggishness started .....this message was replaced with something like" low engine power" or "reduced engine power"-diagnostics check by uncertified personnel revealed engine codes relating to the throttle position sensor......it appears that there is one located on the throttle body and possibly one @ the pedal????? If so..........how do i determine which sensor.......and how hard is it for the average unmechanic guy to change out the sensor on the throttle body? I don't even know where the throttle body is so you get an idea of how much of a mechanic i am..........and is it possible for it to be a fuel filter problem? Thanks beforehand for any help on this matter.

You have a "Drive by wire" throttle system. It uses 2 TPSs, one ranging up and one ranging down. If one goes bad, the computer defaults to only partial throttle. You will have to replace the pedal position sensor to resolve the problem.

They are both together in one part so you don't have a choice.

Hello - is this a dead thread? I have a related question... I've searched through the forum and not found anything quite like this issue.

I have a 04 Trailblazer I bought recently. The transmission had been rebuilt in it. Between 1500 and 2000 rpm - on level ground, no load - the transmission will start cycling up and down. Speeding up or slowing down will stop the cycling, as will going up or down hill.

A transmission shop diagnosed it based on those symptoms - to be the TPS and not the transmission. How can I confirm, or where should I go for next steps?

Of course it's a dead thread. It's 7 years old.
