2007 Saturn ion. 2.2l check engine light issue we have had this car for a year, no real issues. however, time for registration renewal and an emissions test . the smog test will indicate secondary air flow failure. we have plugged into a scantool, the scantool will not activate the secondary air pump when we command the pump "on' I have installed a new secondary air injection pump, as well as a new air management valve. once we reset the light, the car runs fine, however the check engine light re appears after about 2 hours of operation . I am unsure of where to proceed next.. any help would be grateful

ion 2 ? What is the code you are seeing? Anyway this is an electric air pump - did you check fuses and relays?

the way I read the issue - the scanner will NOT turn on SAI airpump... SO the pump is not getting energized - there are 2 fuses 1 for relay 1 for pump then will need to check the relay. This is a california emission item only I think I will check time permitting for wiring diagram -

look for a 40amp fuse- that would be the red wire to pump - I would suspect if relay signal were not getting power to PCM there would be another code- Being able to command SAI I suspect but need to ask- you can read ALL codes esp manufacturers specific P1xxx and P2xxx

40 amp fuse is good there is this 40 amp fuse, as well as a relay labled air pump I have swapped the relay with another (same spec's) and will see if anything changes also, with a continuity tester I checked the 6 pin plug that goes to the air management valve, not all pins have power, so I am assuming that this connector is not always powered? would a bad or loose connector at the air pump itself cause a similar issue ty
