96 Saturn SW codes not ready to pass Sign In

96 saturn sw 187000 miles 1.9l dohc I recently had my saturn inspected and it said there were three codes not ready to pass and they were the EGR the O2 sensor on the manifold and the catalytic converter. I replaced both the EGR and the O2 sensor at the advice of my mechanic and then ran through the drive cycle multiple times just as he had told me and still its been well over 400 miles and it is still reading codes not ready to pass. I am at a loss for what to do. Please email me as soon as possible since this is the only vehicle I have and Im unable to drive it since it wont pass inspection. Thanks. Also the car runs fine without any problems and the check engine light is not on. Just everytime it gets scanned it says 3 codes are not ready to pass. Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds more like the computer is not completing the monitor tests. You may want to double check that there are no codes stored. Certain codes will prevent the computer from performing certain monitors until the code has cleared and has passed 3 consecutive drive cycles. If there are no codes, you may simply have to keep driving the vehicle until the computer completes the monitor.

Re: 96 Saturn SW codes not ready to pass Sign In

Hi! I have a 2001 Saturn 300 V6. Service engine light keeps coming on. Can't pass emissions test because the codes say it is running too lean. It also says something about the EGR, Oxygen and Catalyst. Codes are PO171 and PO174. I have had two different mechanics check it, and they both said there is no reason for this. What can I do? Thank you.

Then you need to find different mechanics that can actually find the problem. There is no question the engine is running too lean. They just need to work a little harder to find the problem.

The best thing here would be to follow HTs advise......

P0171 & P0174 can be the easiest codes to fix and can also be the hardest ones to trace down... Find a shop that knows what fuel trims are and what they mean and they'll be able to help you out.......
