98 dodge 1500 1 and 8 misfire Sign In

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9 that shakes any time I drive 35-60 MPH. it has 255 misfires on number 8 and 145 misfires on number 1 every thirty seconds of datastream. changed all plugs wires cap rotor. and routed plug wires per the dodge TSB. Also I pulled out the fuel rail and hooked up all the injectors. every injector has a great spray pattern.

Check your firing order. They fire in sequence.

Also try swapping the injectors to different cylinders to see if the miss moves. A compression test wouldn't be a bad idea.

If you can, rig up a vacuum gauge you can read while your driving to see what reading is doing when it's missing

Checked the firing order. It was all wrong. Cant believe how good the truck ran how it was. Corrected firing order and now 1 misses less only about 70 times in 30 seconds but 8 is still missing all the time. have not done a compression check yet.

Did you move the distributor at all in this?

Don't rule anything out but keep in mind that 1 & 8 are about as far apart as you can get mechancially but right next to each other in the firing order.

I have never moved the distributer and it is tight. Firing order is now correct. I bought the truck this way so I do not have any other history to go off of.

Someone may have moved the distributor thinking they could change the timing. That throws the injector synch out and has to be set using a professional scan tool

You can sync the distributor with a volt meter too. Half the time the distributor housing on those are seized up and you can't turn it. What do or did the plugs look like on 1 and 8?
