Code 410 - 2005 Trailblazer
2005 Trailblazer with 105,000 miles. Check engine light on and the code is 410 Secondary Injection Manfunction. What does that mean? Engine seems to be running fine.

The code description would be better said as secondary AIR injection. This vehicle has an electric air pump that supplies air/oxygen, first off to heat the converter up quickly and then to provide oxygen to the converter to help promote the chemical reaction to lower NOX emissions. The PCM (computer) sets this code when the PCM runs two consecutive 3 second tests on the system and the O2 sensor does not react to the assumed oxygen that is being pumped into the exhaust system. Some of the things that might be wrong is the fuse is blown for the pump’s motor, the relay is not turning the pump on, the air ducting has come off and the air is not reaching the exhaust and the list goes on. The test procedure is quite long with a number of different avenues all depending on the last steps test results? Dan. Canadian "EH"

GM had problems with the air pumps on these. They are known for getting water into the air pump and freezing destoring the air pump. Easy to check and see if this is the case. the air pump is going to be on the drivers side near the bottom of the radiator. remove one of the hose from the air pump and see if water is in the line. if no water is found further diag. as Dan described is needed.

While the engine light can be annoying, if you don't live in a place that does smog inspections you don't need to worry about this one unless you want to. This is an emissions code and won't stop your vehicle from running. But the light will stay on. So fixing this depends on your money situation at this point. If you want to spend it, this site can help you minimize your cost. If not, save your money and put black tape over the engine light.

I’ll of have to agree with Hammer; not the best advice, to allow the system, in whole not functioning properly. Yes nickwarner is right the vehicle will run; but leaving this could have a chain effect on the remaining system. Without this fresh air being supplied to the exhaust; the O2 sensors will detect this and in-turn the computer may react, by changing fuel mixture in an attempt to compensate. Without the proper fuel mixture entering the engine, the exhaust gases will also be affected; which in-turn could degrade the catalytic converter, cause misfires and cost you fuel mileage. Kind of like a snowball rolling down hill it (the problem) doesn’t get any smaller. With the light being on all the time; you would not be warned; that there is another issue that may leave you wearing out some shoe leather; or cause your arm to become soar doing this. The check engine light doesn’t get any brighter, with the addition of more codes. Dan. Canadian "EH"

I also have an '05 trailblazer that threw a code. When I pull up to a stop sign or light, engine will surge and sometimes stall. Also, during acceleration, I can feel it thrusting forwards win spurts, as if the ignition timing was jumping around. The car will accelerate faster at 1/2 throttle than at full throttle. A friend read the code for me and I came back saying the O2 sensor is faulty. I know there's one before and after the catalyst, but I also know that the O2 sensor is commonly referred to as a "tattle tail". I will try to have him check it again for me to get the exact code number, but if anyone has any suggestions other than black tape, please help me out.
