I have a 2001 Ford Ranger, 3.0L, 91000 miles. Engine code P0401 came up, EGR air flow insufficient. Is my code reader interpeting this code correctly? I replaced my EGR valve twice and code continues to return. I personally change my oil and filters regularly at 4000 miles. I do extensive traveling throughout my state, Colorado. I live at 6800 ft and drive in areas up to 8500 ft weekly. Does the high altitude screw with this system. Engine light comes on only, does not seem to affect fuel mileage or power. What is the remedy to this code. Is there more than one EGR valve on this engine. I can clear the code and it will not return until I hit the interstate.

Replace the DPFE sensor that is in the EGR system. It has 2 pressure hoses on it coming from the exhaust and an electrical connector. Ford is known for those failing. They even had a TSB streamlining the repair that if the light came on for a P0401 replace the DPFE. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
