Ford Ranger engine 2.3 code 1443

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger that has a 2.3 and it has an engine code of 1443. I need to know how to resolve this code problem. I really rely on my vehicle to run trouble free since I have a 500 miles a day to make my job work for me. I thought that I had the engine code resolved, but after all the service engine light comes back on after 40 miles of disconnection of battery to clear code. On the charcoal canister I had a hose that was pretty rough shape, so I replaced the hose. However at first I found the hose was disconnected.

This is a purge flow code. Nothing to do with a gas cap. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I knew it has nothing to do with gas cap, so what is 1443 and what does it take to resolve the issues?

The code indicates a problem with purge flow. The flow chart takes a number of turns to other charts, depending on specific test results so it's impossible to post complete procedures. Here are the first sequence of tests but as you can see, it can go a number of ways next.

It would be nice to have a diagram of what I'm suppose to test. If if is in the vacuum lines going to the charcoal canister, I replaced the charcoal canister and one of the electrical components so far, and still have problems. I have the other component that I have not replaced yet to install as soon as I get the wiring disconnected to replace it. Can anyone provide more details and diagrams of this 1443 code error resolutions.

You already have the flow chart for that code. It is designed to eliminate all possible causes.

The chart HT posted is pretty much all you need to test out that. This is for a purge flow sensor in the evap system. This on the purge side of the evap system and it does what it's name implies, it moniters the flow when the purge valve is open & purging.. If the sensor senses flow when there isn't suppose to be any or no flow when there is suppose to be flow, it will set the code. I'm assuming you are somewhat familar with evap systems & don't need the whole run down of the system.... It's located on the evap hose between the purge valve & port on the intake manifold, on the left side. The chart gives you the voltages & resistances you are looking for at the different pins. If you are unsure of the pin numbers maybe HT or someone could post pin ID for the valve, my database is down. If you run the tests and need a different chart post the chart ID you need.....

I'm an old man that remembers the 1930-1970s when vehicles were simple. After 33 years of working on vehicles, I have forgotten as much as I remember. OH STOP, I'm older than you are. EVAP systems have been in cars for the past 17 years. This is the sensor at the engine This is the solenoid at the charcoal canister PURPOSE - The Evaporative Canister Purge Solenoid controls the flow of vapors (purging) from the carbon canister to the intake manifold during various engine operating modes. The Evaporative Canister Purge Solenoid is a normally closed valve in the evaporative emission system.
OPERATION - The operation of the Evaporative canister purge solenoid is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) . When the engine is off, the Evaporative Canister Purge Solenoid is not energized and is in a closed, non-flowing condition.
- When the engine is running, the PCM reads engine rpm, engine load, engine temperature and other variables, and decides the proper time for the engine to accept fuel vapors.
- When this occurs, the PCM energizes the fuel Evaporative Canister Purge Solenoid, allowing flow from the fuel vapor canister to the intake manifold. The vapors are then consumed in the engine. This action "purges" the fuel vapor canister of fuel vapors.
