P0160 Solved, P0404 Un-solved!

P0160 Solved, P0404 Un-solved!

Well it started with the Engine Check light turning. I ran that way for a few years. I finally got an OBD2 reader and these are the codes I found:
- P1294 Target Idle Not Reached.
- P0160 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 2). This turned out to be the Left Side Back (after Catalytic Converter) Oxygen sensor.
- P0404 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Range/Performance.
I did the easy part first which was to replace the O2 sensor. While installing it I found that the O2 sensor connector had come loose from its anchor post and was up against the engine exhaust. Not surprisingly, the both sides of the connector were melted. So my original O2 sensor was probably still good but the connectors were melted. So I needed a new sensor with pigtail and connector (universal model was about $80 CND) and a new connector on the chassis side (about $40 CND at Chrysler).
After installing both, clearing the codes and going for a 5 mile ride I re-tested and found the P1294 and P0160 codes were now cleared. Good stuff!
I suspect P1294 has nothing to do with the O2 issue and it may come back again. We will see.
However, the P0404 is still there! What should I do? Has anyone out there had and solved this EGR code? If so, let me know how you did it.

P0404 is a problem with the EGR position sensor. This tells the EGR when and how much to open. Although this sensor is integral in the EGR valve, the circuit needs to be checked to make sure it is the sensor/valve or in between in and (including) the PCM.

The actual definition for that code is
SYMPTOM
P0404 - EGR POSITION SENSOR RATIONALITY
WHEN MONITORED
SET CONDITION
The EGR flow or valve movement is not what is expected.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Wiring harness intermittent problem
- High resistance sensor ground circuit
- High resistance EGR sensor signal circuit
- EGR sensor
- PCM
The EGR valve for that vehicle is sold as an assembly that includes the sensor, valve and solenoid so replacing it gets everything except the wiring. That's probably your best bet.
